The Bike Proudly Sponsors Ford Park’s New Soccer Field in Bell Gardens

Last Saturday, Bell Gardens Mayor Jennifer Rodriquez and Council members Pedro Aceituno, Daniel Crespo, Priscilla Flores and Mayor Pro Tem Sergio Infanzon cut the red ribbon on our City’s newest addition –the new soccer field at nearby Ford Park.

Our Managing Partner and CEO, Hashem Minaiy and Partner Julie Coyne represented the Bike with great pride, along with fellow community park sponsors, Central Basin & Metropolitan Water District, Athens Services, and So Cal Edison in commemorating this community’s newest accomplishment.

Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard and Assembly Member, Ricardo Lara were on hand for the festivities and commended the City Council for their tremendous commitment and perseverance in making this soccer field a reality.

Pam Wasserman, Director of Parks & Recreation was honored by Mayor Rodriquez for her dedication and ability to reach out to community partners to bring this project to fruition.
“This project was not without its challenges”, stated Wasserman. “We had a challenging task. First, we had to convince Southern California Edison to allow us to use what was actually their property. Secondly, the City was required to raise substantial funds within an impossible deadline, or lose the state funds we had in place.  Thanks to the community partners that came together to help make this happen, our dream of soccer for this park is now a reality.”

Ronald Garcia, Regional Manager of So Cal Edison confirmed jokingly with the crowd that Mrs. Wasserman and City officials simply would not go away. “We kept telling Pam no but she just kept asking, over and over again. She simply exhausted us into submission, and secretly, we’re really pleased”, Garcia quipped with a wink.  CEO Minaiy stated, “They’ve turned unused land and made it a functioning part of this regional park for thousands of families to enjoy each year”.
